ulia Mavrogordato was a prolific linocut artist, contributing no fewer than fourteen examples to the first three annual linocut exhibitions between 1929 and 1931. She focused on rural themes and completed a series based on the upper-class sport of fox hunting that included Gone to Ground. Unlike the flat blocks of colour used by so many of her contemporaries, Mavrogordato incorporates cross- hatching and jagged, roughly cut lines which give a lively impressionistic effect to the image.
