This painting by Russell Clark is an elevated view of New Brighton beach from the old pier, revealing the ghost-like form of a waka at the edge of the tide. This work shows the artist’s rapport with the history of the land and its Māori people. Although he spoke privately to others of having Māori ancestry, little about this is yet known.
