This print is a page from the multi-volume 'Musée Francais; receuil des plus beaux tableaux, statues, et bas-reliefs qui existaient au Louvre avant 1815'. This monumental 1829 publication documented the contents of the Louvre Museum during the Napoleonc era when it had housed art treasures from all over occupied Europe.
At the time this print was made the painting was attributed to Carlo Cignani (1628 - 1719), but it is now attributed to his pupil Marcantonio Franceschini (1648 - 1729). The painting is in the Maurithuis, The Hague (inventory number 316).
