Swiss-born Italian painter and printmaker Davide Antonio Fossati came from a family of prominent eighteenth-century architects and sculptors. This etching, featuring a group of travellers being assaulted by bandits, was published in Venice in 1743 as part of a series of twenty-four landscapes, after paintings by Italian painter Marco Ricci.
