Behind the scenes
A word that has been bandied about in and out of Christchurch, left, right and centre post February 22 is Resilience, a word that has little impact now whenever I hear it mentioned in relation to the earthquakes.
But when I walk past this little nugget of building (Shands on on Hereford street, built in 1851) I am reminded of resilience. It has been battered black and blue by earthquakes, neighbouring demolitions and quirky, half-arsed patch up jobs yet still the little blighter is standing, or should that be staggering. It will be a relief when this resilient little building, one of the earliest to be built in Christchurch, is relocated from its current site and restored back to good health.
