Killer work, Cheryl

Behind the scenes

Huge congratulations to Lyttelton-based artist Cheryl Lucas, who took away the inaugural $10,000 Sculpture on the Peninsula Award last Friday night.

Works by more than fifty sculptors were placed at various locations throughout the hills, hollows and outbuildings of the historic Loudon Farm property at Teddington for the biennial three day Sculpture on the Peninsula exhibition, which raises money for the Cholmondeley Children's Home. Tucked inside the airless round of an old slaughterhouse, Lucas's Harder Larder was arguably the most site-responsive of all the exhibits, with a variety of ceramic forms - some resembling bladders, others sausages, jugs or basins, many hung from butcher's hook - presenting an unforgettably grim take on the traditional still life.
