Behind the scenes
This month marks thirty years since the South African rugby team began its controversial 'Springbok' tour of New Zealand in the face of widespread and growing protest.
Over 56 days in July, August and September 1981, more than 150,000 New Zealanders took part in over 200 demonstrations in 28 centres.
This poster, created by Christchurch artist Michael Reed for a street protest against the tour, is in the Gallery's collection. You can see other anti-tour posters here.
