Antarctica New Zealand is the Crown Entity responsible for New Zealand's involvement in Antarctica at a national and international level.
In 1996, Antarctica New Zealand established the Artists to Antarctica Programme in partnership with Creative New Zealand.
Many outstanding New Zealand practitioners (from visual artists to writers, composers and choreographers) have travelled to Antarctica with the programme, including Nigel Brown, Bill Manhire, Margaret Mahy, Raewyn Atkinson, Anne Noble and Chris Cree-Brown.
Antarctica New Zealand has established a collection of artworks made as a result of the programme and has made a special selection of these available to the Gallery for this exhibition.
