Christchurch Press Photographers' Exhibition

This exhibition is now closed

This was an exhibition of 55 photographs taken by local Press and Star photographers and was organised in association with the Canterbury and Westland Journalists' Union. The photographs were largely of incidents that captured the mind of the New Zealand public, ranging from Commonwealth Games images to walking the dog on a frosty morning and demonstration at the airport.

The photographers were Derrick Tonkin, Len Wesney, Neville Hawke, Stuart Menzies, Des Woods, John McCombe, Francis Kay and Colin Simpson.

This entertaining exhibition was a huge success in Christchurch judging by the numbers of people who attended it, but was not seen nationally.

The Gallery was in the early stages of building a permanent collection of photographs and the contributors were asked if the Gallery could retain prints from the exhibition.

The gallery considered making this exhibition an annual event.
