Dr Mark Titmarsh – artist, award-winning experimental filmmaker, researcher and lecturer at the University of Technology, Sydney – asks “what is painting?” How is painting ordinarily understood, and what do non-traditional forms of painting tell us about the boundaries of the art form?
Titmarsh is the author of Expanded Painting: Ontological Aesthetics and the Essence of Colour (Bloomsbury, 2017), and his presentation will address the high-vibration ideas developed in the book, and his practice in its many and varied forms. Two of Titmarsh’s short films will be screened following the discussion: Dark Trick (2018, 3 mins.), and This Hive Mind (2018, 12 mins.) made with Sean Lowry and Gary Warner, aka ochromosonico.
