Celebrate Children’s Day early with kids art tours in Te Wheke, performances and workshops led by Sunset Silhouettes and Natural Magic, drop-in watercolours, and a kids clothing and toy swap.
11am - 12.30pm: Natural Magic: We're kicking off the day with the mobile treasure box and an animal puppet stampede! This will then be followed by parachute games using a 30ft diameter rainbow parachute, live accompaniment by some original pirate songs played by the Natural Magic pirates and their pet pirate crocodile. YaRrr! (suitable for younger children).
11am – 1pm: Kids Clothing and Toy Swap: In the Education Centre – ticket holders only*
12.30pm and 1pm: Two Te Wheke Tours: “What’s it made of?’ are two special kids-focused guided tours looking at the way artists use different materials.
1 - 3pm: Watercolours: Get creative and play with watercolours at this drop-in ‘making’ station in the foyer.
2 – 4pm: Sunset Silhouettes: This wonderful puppet maker is here to perform and lead a puppet making workshop! Join Sunset Silhouettes in the education centre for a performance of “The Old Lady who Swallowed a Fly” and a run-down of how to make your own shadow puppet. A puppet making workshop will then commence followed by a parade of all the puppets made by the kids.
*How do I obtain a ticket to the clothing and toy swap? It's simple! Drop off a bag or box of any clean pre-loved children's clothes and toys in good condition to the front desk of the Art Gallery from 15 February until 5 March during opening hours. You will then receive a ticket that allows you entry to the swap on the day. Any clothing and toys left over after the day will be donated to the Red Cross and Woman's Refuge.
