This print depicts a painting by Bartolomé Esteban Murillo (1617-1682) and originated in the folio 'Galerie Aguado, choix des principaux tableaux de la Galerie de Mr le Marquis de las Marismas del Guadalquivir', a set of plates reproducing the main works from the Aguado collection, published by Gavard in 1839-47.
The Aguado collection was sold in 1843 (Times, 1 April 1843, p.5) and the painting depicted in this print is now in the collection of the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Dole, France (inventory number CH 19) where it is recorded as being after, rather than by, Murillo.
