This is a page from an early edition of the novel 'L'Astrée' by Honoré D'Urfé. This multi-volume novel started to appear in 1609 and was a publishing sensation, being re-printed many times. The third part first appeared in 1619, and this work, the title page of the third part, is dated 1621.
The novel concerns the convoluted story of the shepherdess Astrée and her lover Céladon. In this part of the narrative Céladon has transformed himself into the female druid Alexis.
