Hays Ltd Art Competition, 25 September to 11 October 1963. The winning oil painting was North Canterbury by Tom Field, second was MacKinnon Pass from Pompolona by Mary Darwin. The winning water colour was Upper Harbour by Peter Noonan, second was Misty Morning by Colin Wheeler.

Merit wards were given to  Andre Brooke, Peter McIntyre, Selwyn Muru, Ross Ritchie, Eric Lee-Johnson and Ronald McEwen, the last two being for watercolours.
