This work was formally attributed to Albrecht Dürer by previous scholars but is today believed to have been produced by one of Dürer's pupils Hans Baldung. The Dürer monogram was added after Baldung had completed the block. (see Matthias Mende, 'Hans Baldung Grien. Das Graphische Werk', Unterschneidheim 1978, no. 9.)
