Reopening envy
Behind the scenes
With our eyes firmly set on the reopening of Christchurch Art Gallery at the end of next year, I've been following the progress of other institutions with interest, including the new Renzo Piano-designed Harvard Art Museums.
As this Art News article reports, the building will open in November after having been closed for six years (a duration we are definitely NOT aiming to emulate) and unites three museums. It will feature Mark Rothko's Harvard Murals as part of its first display.
Curatorial sidenote: I love how the writer of the article describes the curators as 'spending the summer installing works'. I suspect that there, as here at CAG, the curators are (thankfully) not slaving away in lonely exile, but instead working alongside a team of exhibition staff, registrars and more.
