Philip Trusttum's visit to St Mary's School

Behind the scenes

Philip Trusttum and I had a great time at St Mary's school on Tuesday morning.

We worked with two classes who had visited his show currently on at Peterborough Street Library last term. The children had prepared questions to ask Philip about his work and also looked at the toys and puppets that featured in his drawing books. However, as usual, the best part was getting stuck into the drawing. Philip had brought along some of the things that he draws at home. The children had to choose what they wanted to draw and just go for it while Philip wandered around the room giving advice and ideas. There were several excellent works made by the students with brilliant colour and pattern inspired by Philip's art.

There was a wonderful sense of fun and energy in the classroom and when I had to stop everyone to pack up for morning tea there were groans from both the artist and the kids.
