Behind the scenes
Great to see Bailter Space playing a few gigs in the North Island but no doubt there are a few disapointed Christchurch fans now that it looks likely they won't be heading down this way.
Bailter Space were originally known as the Gordon's back in the early 1980s and one of the most striking images from the Christchurch post-punk scene is the Gordons robot guitar man constructed from an assortment of objects. It featured repeatedly on the Gordons posters and records and acted as a sort of trademark for the band. Many of the bands designs, predominantly completed in black and white, were (I think) created by the talented graphic designer John Halverson, the bands guitarist/bass player.
I love the tour dates on the poster below...Auckland / Wellington / Christchurch / Ashburton... ASHBURTON! Forget Laneways, what a gig that would have been to see.
Here's a track from Bailter Space's latest album Strobosphere, check it out.
