14 March 1967

This remarkable exhibition sponsored by the Department of Education, occupied a whole wing of the art gallery and was timed for the start of the school year to attract visits from schools.
This comprehensive survey of letter forms comprised 50 large panels (52" x 42") displaying a series of photographs in colour and monochrome, each with explanatory texts. It covered written expressions from drawings on cave walls to traffic lights, newspapers to modern typescript in books.
A detailed catalogue was available for ten shillings.
