The leading fabric artist Malcolm Harrison, has created The Family an extraordinary group of doll-like figures, each exquisitely crafted and impeccably fitted out in clothes appropriate to their individual characters. The Family belongs to southern American black culture and embraces gamblers, musicians, fancy women, children wild and sweet, pillars of respectability and backsliders, each with a biography and relationship to another. The detail of this exhibition is as fascinating as the convincing reality of this remarkable, intriguing collection of characters.
