Influenced by the paintings of Hieronymus Bosch, Philip Trusttum's drawings for Stereoscope are a personal tribute to the Russian activist collective and post-punk group, Pussy Riot.
Philip Trusttum's drawings for Stereoscope are a personal tribute to the Russian activist collective and post-punk group, Pussy Riot. Three members were charged with 'hooliganism' in February 2012 after their public performance advocating freedom of expression in Moscow's Cathedral of Christ the Saviour. Trusttum homes in on a small humanimal from Hieronymus Bosch's painting The Last Judgement (c.1482), which he recreates using figures from his extensive collection of toys. Elements of a Russian doll and a Chinese mask provide the models for the drawings, which are pulled together to form bizarre and anxious-looking figures.
