Kim Wright Collection 1974

This exhibition is now closed

A private collector, Kim Wright, began the collection in 1964 and amassed an important collection of contemporary New Zealand paintings, drawings and prints.

Colin McCahon, Pat Hanly and Michael Illingworth were represented in depth.

The collection also had a strong focus on New Zealand figurative painting. Numerous others such as Rita Angus, Toss Woollaston, Gordon Walters, Milan Mrkusich, Brent Wong and Geoff Thornley were represented with one or more works each.

The collection tended towards an intimate feeling with an emphasis on small paintings, though there were a number of major works by Angus, McCahon, Trusttum and Illingworth.
