International Prints

This exhibition is now closed

Seven countries (Britain, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan and the United States) were represented in this large and comprehensive exhibition of 130 prints assembled by the Auckland City Art Gallery. Although the catalogue shows 134 items, numbers 48, 117,118 and 126 were found not to be in the cases or on the packing slips.

The exhibition was contained in twelve cases, some of them large and all of them heavy. Some of the works were hung on screens and others were rested against the walls, which was the only way they could be shown. The total length of the show with a single row of prints was calculated at approximately 330 feet allowing only an inch or two between frames. It was a really big show for the Robert McDougall Art Gallery.

An illustrated talk on printmaking was given by Mr John Knight, lecturer in graphic crafts at the University of Canterbury School of Fine Arts, on Sunday 29 April, 1962.
