Craft New Zealand

This exhibition is now closed

Craft New Zealand was an exhibition organised under the auspices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Arts Council for a tour of New Zealand and Europe. It toured Europe for approximately 4 years.

It consisted of 66 pieces representing a wide range of contemporary New Zealand craft chosen by John Maynard.

Special emphasis was given to Māori craft, particularly the continuity of various traditions in weaving. There was also work by non-Māori inspired by traditional Māori craft. Ceramics were also seen as being the most vital of contemporary craft forms in New Zealand.

Among the artists whose work was included were Len Castle, Bronwynne Cornish, Digeress Rangituatahi Te Kanawa, Rangimarie Hetet, Ida Lough, Paul Mason and Michael Trumic.
