Commonwealth Games Exhibition
January –
January 1974
In January 1974 Christchurch hosted the tenth Commonwealth Games.
During that period, other activities were organised, including special events in the cultural life of the city.
The Gallery showed a survey of art in New Zealand, predominately painting, from artists who accompanied Captain Cook on his voyages of discovery to the present day. The works were sourced from public collections and private lenders and were generally regarded as masterpieces in the history of painting in New Zealand.
