Architecture Without Architects

This exhibition is now closed

This exhibition was offered to the Queen Elizabeth II Arts Council by the Museum of Modern Art, New York. It had been at MoMA from November 1964-February 1965. The works were selected by Bernard Rudofsky, a well known American architect, critic and designer.

The exhibition was a survey of communal architecture with examples from 60 countries from the undateable past to the present. The theme being that these many examples demonstrated both function and aesthetic quality without being associated with great periods of art or great architects,

The exhibition consisted of photographs and texts on 122 individual panels.

Leading Christchurch architect Paul Pascoe opened the exhibition.
