Wayne Youle talks about his work One for the Mother – Allsorts, currently brightening up the Gallery's carpark bunker.
Brightening up the Gallery's carpark bunker, Wayne Youle's One for the Mother – Allsorts is one of the few works Wayne has created for his mother. A giant stack of liquorice allsorts, the work has no political or cultural vent. By presenting something bright and bold that people have only to enjoy and not scrutinise or become overwhelmed by, Wayne intends people to take it for what it is. Wayne will talk to us about how this piece represents a shift from the bulk of his work, which has followed the paternal line, and how a trip down the maternal path was a nice change, while noting that the cultural themes in his work come from his Māori maternal side.
Includes breakfast at Alchemy Restaurant and Bar.
Bookings close Wednesday 8 December.
