Join gallery curator Ken Hall as he discusses photographer David Cook's moving, nostalgic photographic journey of street life in the 1980s.

David Cook's images of central Christchurch in the 1980s reveal the city as we'll never again see it - Cathedral Square, Centennial Pool and Lancaster Park, punks and nuns.  From the days before big malls, when we used to take the bus everywhere, Meet Me in the Square is a moving, nostalgic journey rebuilding a city through photographs.  As a young, find-arts photography student in his twenties, Cook was fitting himself into a role that was part anthropologist, part cultural commentator and critic.  Surveying the city fearlessly with his camera, he captured bell-ringers and boot boys, Boys' Brigade meetings and beery crowds, nuns, mums with prams and royal waters; in doing so he created a body of work that continues to resonate.
