A fascinating talk by artist Adele Jackson introducing the scientific processes and artistic creativity that culminated in the work Antarctic Sun Lines.
Solargraphs are created using light-sensitive paper inside a pinhole camera to record a trace of sun’s light each day. The sun, the tilt and rotation of the Earth, and the polar location all combine to create a project that Jackson hopes will “kindle a sense of wonder and ignite a curiosity about the dynamics of our planet.” Adele will talk alongside her work in the Baileys Knight Frank Foyer.

To mark the opening of the 2019/20 Antarctic summer season, Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhetū presents the first publicly exhibited Antarctic Sun Lines solargraph. A multi-day exposure image made using a pinhole camera and illuminated with solar energy, it considers Antarctica in relation to the sun and the natural forces that create and sustain life on Earth
