William Withering (1741-1799) was an eminent physician and an early advocate of digitalin in the treatment of heart ailments. This print, in which he is shown holding a foxglove, depicts the portrait of him by Carl Fredrik von Breda, (1759 - 1818) in the collection of the National Museum, Stockholm.
