Roelant Roghman was born into an artistic family in Amsterdam in 1627, the son of printmaker Hendrick Roghman and Maria Savery, daughter of Flemish painter Jacob Savery. He became a landscape painter and prolific engraver and was recorded as a great friend of Rembrandt van Rijn. This work is from his Eight views of various provinces in Holland etching series.
