Behind the scenes

All Christchurch Art Gallery exhibitions are lovingly documented for prosperity, and the newly installed Face Books show at the Peterborough St Library is no exception.

Gallery photographer John Collie and I popped down there last week, John with his camera and me with my Powr-Grip Vacuum Cups (glass suckers) to remove the perspex lids from the display cases so that the shots would be unimpeded by light reflections etc.  John spared no effort in his documentation, even resorting to the age-old OHS-defying photographers trick of standing on a chair.  Anyway, if you're down there, returning your Mills-and-Boon or picking up the latest Jack Reacher (let's not get into the Tom Cruise is too short debate here), take the time to peruse the Face Books exhibition.  There are some beautiful rare books on show, with some great artists represented, and with a total devotion to portraiture in all its many guises it's a nice inclusion in the Populate! program.
