Photographed at Clare Noonan’s home in Canterbury, Landscape Portrait Prelude explores how impressions of a place can inform the self and the land. An imprint of the artist’s body in a carpet of lush grass conveys a sense of fleeting presence and of absence, and the idea of home as an insulating and protecting place. An open compass with no other reference but the contours of the artist’s own hand brings to mind the anticipation of journeying and the possibility of being open to any direction. These works are part of a broader practice that investigates through perfomative photography a narrative centred on the self as a navigating instrument.
