Torlesse Transect 2005 [12:26]

Torlesse Supergroup consists of guitarists Roy Montgomery and Nick Guy, whose compositions often reflect and respond to specific geographical locations. Montgomery in particular has a strong affinity with the South Island and his 1995 solo album, Scenes from the South Island, specifically responded to the unique characteristics of the landscape. Torlesse Transect maps the topographical contours of the approach to Arthur's Pass from the west. Quiet blips mark the changing contour heights while distorted feedback and rhythmic guitars conjure a sense of speeding along the West Coast Road, passing mountain ranges on the climb up to the Main Divide. The geology of the Arthur's Pass/Otira region is made up primarily of a combination of greywacke and argillite known as the Torlesse Supergroup.

Torlesse Transect ran in conjunction with the Van der Velden: Otira exhibition.
