Art School 125
125 Years of the School of Fine Arts
at the University of Canterbury
9 November 2007 - 17 February 2008

Touring Exhibition A, B, C & Borg Henry Galleries

Drawn from the Christchurch Art Gallery, University of Canterbury and other private and public collections, the Art School 125 exhibition features work by former students such as Margaret Stoddart, Shane Cotton, Ronnie van Hout, Séraphine Pick, William Sutton, Leo Bensemann, Francis Upritchard and Bill Culbert.

Organised in chapters, such as early modern, regionalist painting and 1960s-1970s expressionism, the exhibition clusters work by style and/or conceptual approach. It has been curated by Ken Hall, Jennifer Hay, Lara Strongman and Peter Vangioni for the Christchurch Art Gallery.

The exhibition features works in a range of media, including painting, sculpture, film, photography, printmaking and the earlier decorative arts that were taught at Canterbury. With interviews with past students and a timeline of significant events in the history of the school, the accompanying online publication looks at the role the Art School has played in the lives of many significant New Zealand artists.
