11 March – 2 July 2023
An expansive installation by Peter Robinson sparks a collection-based look at how artists investigate and respond to space, through line, materials and improvisation.
With experiences ranging from the intimate to the spectacular, it features many recent acquisitions – such as a colourful manu aute, or bark-cloth kite, made by Nikau Hindin using earth-based pigments, a painting-within-a-painting by Oli Perkins and a delicately entwined John Pule drawing inspired by his family’s ancestral lands in Niue. The exhibition also provides a new context for other works, including an exquisite selection of historical pencil works and Neil Dawson’s memorable 1979 installation Seascape.
