Students will tour through the Gallery’s collection and look at Kowhaiwhai. They will finish the tour in Blue Planet by looking at the work of Reuben Paterson, who uses Māori motifs and patterns in his work.

Tour and a practical lesson: 2 hours
Suitable for year levels 2-10

Students will take a tour of the Gallery's collection and look carefully at works that use Kowhaiwhai and Māori motifs. During the tour students look through Blue Planet, an exhibition created with young people in mind, and look at the work of Reuben Paterson, who uses glitter to create Māori motifs and patterns in his work. The tour is supported by a practical lesson where students create their own Reuben Paterson inspired Kowhaiwhai design.
