Rediscover the Gallery after dark as it comes alive with a vibrant changing calendar of special events combining people and art with music, great food, beer and wine, pop up talks and demonstrations, debates, film and live performances.

Have a different kind of night out and embark on a new cultural exploration over each of the 6 editions of The Mix in 2016.

Come be seen in the coolest of scenes at this evening exploring the history of musical subcultures and alternative scenes in New Zealand.

Four amazing musical acts will be playing in the NZI Foyer, Geoff Stahl (Victoria University of Wellington) will delve into the social history of New Zealand music and music scenes in the auditorium, and a great range of food, Yealands wine and Three Boys beer will be available all evening!

And don't forget all the galleries will be open and a night tour of the spaces will be available at 7:15pm!

Geoff Stahl discusses "What We Talk About When We Talk About Music in the City" 7:00-7:45pm / Philip Carter Family Auditorium
Geoff Stahl is a Senior Lecturer in Media Studies at Victoria University of Wellington. His research areas include scenes, musicmaking in the city, advertising and semiotics. His publications include the co-authored text book Understanding Media Studies, the forthcoming edited collection Made in Australia and New Zealand: Studies in Popular Music (forthcoming 2017), as well as various articles on the culture of cities, including Montreal, Berlin and Wellington, as well as pieces on hipsters, craft beer and mock meat.
