Around and around
Apparently 2013 is slated to be the year of strange coincidences and I'm starting to see why...
Lawn circle. Boy, those weeds are really thriving.
No sooner had I photographed the rather satisfying mark left on the back lawn by our paddling pool than I opened the mailbox to find an invitation to the latest exhibition at Jonathan Smart Gallery, also on a circular theme.
Invitation, Jonathan Smart Gallery February 2013.
Surrendering to the magnetic pull of synchronicity, I had a quick rummage through the Gallery's online collection, which yielded the following My Gallery selection (there are, of course, many, many more examples). Note: you have to really want it to be able to see the circles in the Mrkusich painting, but if you press your nose up against the screen, you'll get there.
And if, like me, your grasp of geometry is a tad hazy, check out the jaunty refresher below so you can wow them like it's 1985.

If you want to talk about strange coincidences and synchronicity then consider my painting titled "There is no greater anguish than the soul's struggle between duty and love". To make it I had to violently shake the canvas to spread graphite dust into the varnish but as I was doing this the phone rang with the news that my hometown of Christchurch had been hit by the first earthquake. I live in Arizona but the coincidental timing of what happened in Canterbury spooked me all the same.

I forgot to mention earlier that the painting I was shaking is of seven circles that are apparently tumbling through space.
