Domes, spires and fallen towers
It must be about letting go of towering ambitions in the new gothic Christchurch - or for the moment at least while we're stuck with faulty towers...
Regent Theatre dome, Worcester Boulevard, 28 October 2011
Extraordinary sculpture: the first to be gathered in this collection - photograph taken 28 October 2011. The dome of the Regent Theatre was for a long while positioned on Worcester Boulevard. I would presume it has been preserved - but could just as easily be wrong. Does anyone know where it is now? It is exactly the kind of thing that absolutely should be seen in a new Christchurch, and just as it was 'presented' here. Powerful earthquake memorial? Tick. The geometry of the fabulous giant red pinecone also pays tribute to a richness of lost skills and architectural vision.
Colombo Street, near Peterborough Street intersection
Gothic flowering: Colombo Street, near Peterborough Street intersection, 13 January 2012. Another Christchurch favourite is gone - just the tower remains. But for how long?
Spire of the Our City - Otautahi building
A broken beauty: from one of my favourite pieces of architecture in the city - the Our City - Otautahi building. Spire taken down for repairs. Photograph 3 February 2012.

Wow. Thanks for the link and comments - that's deeply depressing... What on earth are we doing with this city??
