As we all know through the apocryphal grapevine, it's not where your house is, or what it's made of that determines the likely effects of seismic movement.

'It's what's under there that counts', say countless amateur geologists, prodding the ground around their Christchurch homes as speculatively as if they were kicking the tyres of a prospective automotive purchase.
